PROVERBS 23:13-14
13Do not withhold discipline from a child;
if you punish them with the rod, they will not die.
14Punish them with the rod
and save them from death.
My husband has been blowing his devotions in the word for many years. First thing in the morning, after making coffee, he sits down at the computer, opens the Bible app and starts his study. Now, me, sits down, drink my coffee and stare into space! My mind is totally empty; without thought; blank slate.
Today, I thought I would try to shake the cobwebs out of my brain earlier than later.
Proverbs 23:13-14
This one seems rather straight forward, doesn't is? If we don't discipline our children when needed, they will surely die. I mean! Isn't that what is says?!? There must be a deeper meaning to this. Isn't there always a spiritual implication to all God breathed scripture? This could apply to anyone with a child who needs discipline. I have heard many quote the verse as: "spare the rod, spoil the child".
Now, this can be interpreted in a totally different light! We are being told to spare the rod, withhold discipline by taking the rod to the child's bottom, and we should spoil him. Do not discipline by taking any physical action. I am not of this belief, since I used to carry "the" wooden spoon in my purse. Oh! what horror of a parent I was according to these people who hold to the idea of never take up the rod.
God disciplines us, for our good. Shouldn't we as parents discipline for our children's good.
That's all I am going to say about that.....
Have a blessed Sabbath !
